Why do we travel? What do we look for in unknown exotic countries? What does this bring us? What do we really bring back home with us? How do certain places become touristic destinations? Why do we choose specific places? Lastly, what is the actual reason for going somewhere?
With traveling we go to unexplored destinations with the desire to have exciting and memorable experiences. In her studio Lilia Luganskaia is staging and reconstructing the thrill of traveling. With this hybrid video work, Luganskaia is opening up her process of looking at tourism as an artefact.
Lilia Luganskaia's practice departs from a background in documentary techniques and focused on investigating reality. It also recognises the political dimension of this, especially through the development of concepts of “proof” and “truth”. She works with photography, performance, video and interdisciplinary installations.
