Thesis: The Blinding Flash of Memory
Eins nach dem anderen (One thing after Another) reflects my way of working through anxiety, uncertainty, and indecision. The work reflects on the role of process in my design-projects, where I tried to learn that rather than looking at once at the finished thing, to take things step by step and not get intimidated by the open endedness.
I present a reconstruction of my studio with all its furniture, tools, notes, memorabilia, and scars. These desks and structures grew out of necessity, shaped by use, wear and mental tasks. My studio has become a reflection of both myself and my practice—a place built through care, attention, and the process of figuring things out.
Within it, I present the recent work “ottobox”, a collaboration with ottoclub and the Pop Conservatory of Amsterdam. What began as a small collaboration developed into a series of custom furniture pieces that function both as transport cases for the band's Korg synthesizers and as the desks from which they perform. Presented in the context within which they were produced, the project reflects on the question of how a workplace influences output and the other way around.
Together, these works are a reminder that understanding does not always come first. Sometimes the bigger picture only appears by taking things one after another.
