The Rietveld Academie condemns all forms of (sexual) intimidation and violence. Everyone at the academy should be able to work and study in a positive atmosphere. Safety is essential to the academy.
A safe learning environment means that students, alumni, employees and former employees can always come to us with questions, reports and complaints about undesirable situations.
Code of conduct
In order to create (socially) safe working and learning environments, the Rietveld Academie has a code of conduct that applies to all staff and students. Read more about the code of conduct here.
Statement on social safety in art education
In the KUO Sector Agenda 2021-2025, social safety is explicitly named as a theme. It is clear that the sector considers social safety a crucial issue and we have decided to elaborate on this theme in a joint approach. Read the full Statement on Social Safety in Art Education here (dated 20 May 2021).
Simultaneously with the publication of the statement, the outlines for a Social Safety Code for Art Education have been sketched out. You can read it here.
Options
> The academy actively focuses on desirable behaviour and on identifying and preventing undesirable behaviour. Satisfaction surveys for students and staff also explicitly ask about experiences with undesirable behaviour and how it was followed up. Be sure to give your feedback in the National Student Survey (NSE)!
> There is a form on the intranet where people can report undesirable behaviour. A report is seen as a signal and is dealt with by the confidential advisors. It is also possible to submit a report anonymously. In that case, the report is included in the confidential counsellors' advice to the Executive Board, but you will not be contacted.
> For reports or complaints of inappropriate behaviour that cannot be resolved by the parties involved, an employee can turn to the confidential advisors and, if necessary, the Complaints committee for undesirable behaviour.
> Any employee with a permanent, temporary or assignment contract can contact the Ombuds Officer.
> Students and staff can also contact Unsettling Rietveld Sandberg. Unsettling Rietveld Sandberg is working on a policy for inclusion and diversity at the academy. The Unsettling Bar is open for personal conversations every Thursday from 10:00 to 17:00 on the first floor of the FedLev building. For newsletters, questions and updates, email: unsettling@rietveldacademie.nl.
Download the ‘Unsettling action framework’, a document compiled by the board, students and staff under the guidance of the Unsettling team. View the Unsettling website here: un-settling.com.
> If the people present, processes and protocols are not sufficient to help you, you can turn to the independent platform mores.online.
> In addition to social safety, the Rietveld Academie has various regulations regarding integrity, including the Integrity Code and the Whistleblower Policy of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Read more on the page ‘Integrity and privacy’.
