Can Gerrit Rietveld Academie and Sandberg Instituut become radically inclusive structures?

Since 2018, Unsettling Rietveld Sandberg has been implementing the policy around inclusion and diversity for the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and Sandberg Instituut.

Unsettling aims to transform Gerrit Rietveld Academie and Sandberg Instituut into a radically inclusive institution.

Unsettling operates actively between and beyond the existing structures and discourses of the academy, to unsettle the Rietveld and Sandberg from the roots up.

Through collaboration, confrontation, conversation, and complication, unsettling supports existing initiatives and develops outreach programs, drawing in new perspectives. The goal is to create a more inclusive environment that embraces different voices, minds, and bodies - those who are here and those who are not, yet.

Together with the dynamic input from students, staff, external advisors, and management, Unsettling Rietveld Sandberg collectively implements the policy on equity and diversity.

This policy aims to not only shift the ways people work together but also ask the question: who is the "we" in the first place.

This initiative marks one of the initial steps toward transforming the academy into a truly inclusive institution in Amsterdam—an interdependent space for courageous ideas and unlearning.

Conversations take place every Thursday at the Unsettling Bar located in the FedLev building 1st floor and open from 10:00 to 17:00. See image below for the exact location.
