The Process is a visual investigation into the life of Katja Verheul's Dutch great-uncle, who was a missionary in China from 1900 to 1950. His personal letters and the writings of Richard J. Lifton (an American soldier turned psychiatrist) are used with found footage of Maoist and missionary films to question the influence of cults and religion.
