A typical Orientation Year assignment has a twist in it, so that students may learn by doing rather than by planning only.
These drawing show the step-by-step process of a drawing assignment in which students were first asked to redraw a Rembrandt print with charcoal. After finishing, unexpectedly they were asked to erase at least 90% of the drawing they made. In this way, dealing with contrast and using it to focus attention on detail is practiced, and an own, personal drawing (not merely a copy) comes into being.
