Deadpan Busted (2017) is a re-enactment of the re-enactment of Steve McQueen's video piece Deadpan (1997) in which he copied Buster Keaton in Steamboat Bill Jr (1928). The version of Aukje Dekker differs because, unlike her predecessors, she is in the wrong place at the right time. The work is a continuation of Dekker's practice, characterized by an honest and often hilarious deconstruction of herself as an artist and the systems within the (art) world that determine value, meaning and authenticity today.
The work is part of the show One for All All for One at her new gallery Gabriel Rolt. This solo show was made out of 11 collaborations.
