The publication in Dutch is a selection of the Conservation Management Plan completed in March 2023 for the 1966 Gerrit Rietveld-designed academy building, made possible by a grant from the Getty Foundation. As a municipal monument, the cultural-historical value of this building is a given beyond the academy. However, the significance of the building for art and design education, still the function for which the building was designed, is the reason for documenting the building in order to guide its preservation process in the coming years with understanding and knowledge without impeding education nor compromising its cultural-historical value.
From a wide range of perspectives, the building has been mapped, and held against the light of Rietveld's specific vision of how built space can contribute to human self-development. It makes visible how academy, architect and building are connected.
