Dakar, November 2023. With a camera in hand, I capture fragments of the capital. My exploration into how the gaze of others influences the perception of our female bodies continues. Here, I collect the stories of Senegalese women. How do they embody their femininity? What is the impact of the women in their surroundings, of society, on their essence? I unveil the city, and these women narrate it for you. Together, we wander through the city via their lived experiences.
P.S. from the curatorial team: The reason we invited Roxane is that she is an advocate for women and gives them a voice in her work. Her work in diverse media is intersectional and challenging and takes you to another world, a world that deserves to be seen and heard. We were excited to see her storytelling expand beyond her usual range of media to moving image through our invitation.
