Privacy Statement 


The Gerrit Rietveld Academie, hereinafter referred to as ‘the Academie’, respects the privacy of our alumni and handles your personal data as required under the Personal Data Protection Act (Wet bescherming persoonsgegevens, Wbp) and from May 2018 onwards under the General Data Protection Regulation (Algemene verordening gegevensbescherming, AVG). In this privacy statement we explain what personal data we collect and use of our alumni and for what purpose.

We define alumni as all those who have graduated from Gerrit Rietveld Academie Amsterdam. 

Storage of personal data

Personal data need to be stored and processed for our alumni policy processes. This needs to be done with the greatest possible care, as improper use of personal data can cause substantial harm not only to alumni but also to the Academie itself. We at the Academie therefore attach importance to protecting the personal data supplied to us properly and using it for its intended purpose. 

Processing of personal data

I We process your personal data because you received a Bachelor’s degree at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. The Academie retains your personal data for historical, statistical and/or scientific purposes, in which case we archive the data forever. 

II We process your data to enable us to stay connected to each other (for instance by monthly updates), offer relevant services pertaining to the alumni’s career, continuing the sharing of knowledge and networks after graduation and inform about relevant news and background information about the Academie, and for promotional purposes of both the alumni and the Academie. Examples of databases or systems in which your data is processed or can be processed are the Alumni database (excel sheet), the Rietveld Society database (Adrez), the Rietveld Society Update (Mailinglijst), the Academie websites, like and

Provision of data to third parties

We will not pass on data supplied by you to other parties outside of the academy unless you have personally consented to this. 

Data protection officer

The Gerrit Rietveld Academie has appointed a data protection officer, who is responsible for internally monitoring compliance with the data protection legislation in force and giving advice. The data protection officer can be contacted by email at fg[at]

Your rights

You are entitled to access, correct or delete your personal data. If you do so, the data concerned will only be processed in order to meet a statutory obligation. If there is no such obligation they will be deleted. You are also entitled to withdraw any previous consent to data processing or to object to the processing of your personal data by the Academie. In addition you are entitled to data transferability, i.e. you can ask us to send in a computer file the personal data that we hold on you to you or an organization designated by you.
