The culinary term for combining fat and water, elements that usually don’t mix together, is called emulsion. Emulsify discipline and freedom is a furniture series that combines materials, aesthetics and function that usually don’t want to mix.

 

Each piece is designed to create an environment of focus, even in the chaos of a living room. Together, the lamp, the cupboard and the desk/chair are driven by principals of design for the chaotic mind. With this work, I hope to support people who struggle with concentration, and to spark a broader conversation about how we can shape our environments to work with us, not against us.

 

The pieces are constructed with flat, straight-cut planks and a sculptural organic woodclay material made from recycled sawdust. Elements from both living and work environments emulsify to create furniture that is both functional and sculptural.
