Material, fluid lines and colours define Sofie’s artworks and she combines them to create their own worlds. The play of colourful lines and shapes allows the viewer to imagine freely, while the result is visually pleasing. The elements in the paintings and glass objects are made in the moment, where material and colour lead the process, with no room for do-overs.

‘Purple and Pink’ is made in two stages. At first, the glass pieces are made, intuitively choosing the movement of the lines, while the combination of colours is a conscious decision. The combination of opaque and transparent colours, with different shades of purple, pink and white, makes the glass seem more fluid.

After making the glass pieces, a composition on canvas is created inspired by the shapes and colours of the glass.

Using ‘complementary colour contrast’, the glass, the painting and their features come together to create a balanced and harmonious aesthetic.

1GC series is created with two different materials; ceramics and glass. By using the slip casting technique for the ceramics and pulling hot glass canes around it there is a play in expectations. The ceramics becomes thin and light, while the glass seems solid and heavy. The play of shard reflections and soft shadows on the surface crates an extra contrast. These different are the characteristics which make the two materials work harmoniously together.

The way the glass curls and flows around the ceramic body generates a fluent and almost living impression, while the ceramic base creates a home for the flow.
