Thesis: Matters of a Liminal Mind
''Matters of a Liminal Mind; Time in Delay' is an attempt on visualising neurodivergent perception. A spectrum where a range of traits may differ in frequency → the expression changes in one's life and looks different in each bodymind.
Time blindness - floating like I walked into a curtain.
Sensory sensitivity - loose threads piercing through the barrier.
Detail-oriented - as a telescope zooming in, my sight fixates on the particles wandering around.
Masking - bending my own synthetic exterior behaviour to mirror and fit the surrounding.
Repetitive movement versus internalized shutdown - the body in fluid rhythms helps to lose tension versus when there are no spoons left, no energy, weakening mind and body connection resulting in freeze mode.
Delayed processing - like the barricade of ropes zigzagged through an otherwise empty transition space in an airport. Suddenly the staff turns up and switches around the lanes, where various pathways are found. Long queues with (sensory) information can lead to shutdowns.
"The installation by Jule is a delicate yet visceral meditation on the rhythms of a neurodivergent body and mind. Here movement, stillness, and the weight of self-regulation become tangible. The work demands daily ritual - refilling the sand, resetting the tension - mirroring the labor of navigating a world built for linear, neurotypical energy. Jule’s work does not perform; it exists in flux, in fatigue and in the fragile connection between artistic practice and being."
