Thesis: How To Organise A Collective Body?
Growing up, I have seen my identity reflected in the domestic space, saturated with the responsibility to perform the role of the care-giver. In my work, I explore the presence of the body, its entanglement with the structures surrounding it. The ceramics, fabric and household objects embody the intensity of the (unwaged) labour that is often overlooked. Notions of beauty and cleanliness are confronted with the abject qualities of the innards of the body and clay that remind us of our own materiality. The aim is to dis-assemble the relationship between the space and the domesticated body as an act of disobedience to suppressive cultural norms.
