1. What are you currently working on?
“Currently I'm working on the Virtual Glass Pavilion. All the events in the Pavilion were cancelled so I decided to create an expansion of the physical space and see where it takes us, to explore the possibilities of what this virtual space can offer now that it has become the temporal "replacement" of communal spaces.”
2. What has changed for you now that the Rietveld buildings are closed for classes and meetings?
“I would say the pace at which I'm working at. I think being able to move freely and explore physical spaces allows for spontaneity of encounters and of thought, your body and mind are more stimulated therefore you move at higher frequencies. Now the stimuli come from "inwards", it's a very radical change, I feel the poles have inverted, like I'm hanging upside down and I have to get used to it for now. Sounds fun, when described this way, like a monkey swinging on a tree :)”
3. And what is staying the same?
“I would say that ‘all’ things are ‘the same’ as they were, but there's this an entire spectrum of things that are resurfacing: all these perspectives we didn't look from. Things that we took for granted or dismissed are very much on focus now. Therefore everything is the same, yet very different in intensity.”
4. Do you have a tip for our students, staff or alumni to make these isolating times a little but more joyful?
“I'd say use this time to feel your body and your mind, to put them in sync. Exercise, take long walks in the forest, self-reflect, reconnect with your community. It's a moment of transformation, I'd say let's try to grow love for the feeling of being with ourselves, let's try to nurture deeper, new, beautiful connections with our peers and our surroundings.”
