Thesis: The Inconvenience Of A Collective Memory In The Modern World

Raised in Latvia during a period of transition, Paula Megija Kārkliņa often derives her artistic practice from personal relationships and landscapes from her surroundings.

She constructs experimental narratives of collective memory and consciousness by manipulating and altering various textures and materials, focusing on their sensory aspects.

Kārkliņa uses the works as a method to analyze cognitive processes. Although adamantly physical, they remain easily vulnerable, yet have the potential to grow into something completely new, challenging the viewer.
