Elfi Seidel's film 'Languages of the Sky' explores the poetic potentiality of language fragments and abstract articulations. Initially developed in 2017 as the graduation work of Elfi Seidel, the piece (then conceived as a sound installation) follows up on Seidel's fascination with language that has been freed from its representational function. 'In 'Languages of the Sky', 42 blackbirds – each recorded in a different country – enter a collective conversation. An investigation into the shifting bonds between form and meaning, (language) barriers and the human and animalistic urge to define and defend territories. Open-ended question are raised, such as: who owns the sky?
A filmic reflection on 'Languages of the Sky' will be shown at Filmhuis Cavia on 24 January at 9PM, and screened on AT5 on 27 and 28 January at 10.40PM.
