Thesis: The secret life of the things we keep
'Emmanuelle Martinez’s work derives from her urge to collect things. Intrigued by her relationship with the things she keeps, she is exploring how objects convey the feeling of safety and intimacy, studying an approach to our material surroundings with more care. Through natural dying and crafting her own materials, she connects herself to the object she makes. She focuses on the vessel as a space that finds expansiveness within the seemingly small: a box , a bag or a pouch that becomes a sacred place to keep whatever someone might cherish, a portal to another world.
