In Defence of the Impossible
I'm intrigued by the moment when two spaces collide. Space may be physical/mental, virtual/real, or digital/analogue.
Magic is one instance when two spaces can merge into one. Physical/mental and virtual/real. Magic produces a virtual world that can be experienced without the need of 3D goggles or any other equipment. To me, virtuality is something produced by the hands of a magician.
If technology reaches the level of magic, the magic vanishes. When the metaverse takes over entirely, virtual space loses its most magical properties and becomes simply another living space. Traveling is not the same as living.
In the video, a magic performance connects several narratives revolving around virtual reality and its real-world metaphors. By installing the objects shown in the video in the exhibition space, the physical and virtual spaces become entwined and begin to create friction.
