La nuit balançoire is a movie about the night; a mythical timezone, a place of transition, darkness and calm. Amsterdam like all metropolitan cities, rebuilds itself everyday. A city is a complex organism with its circulations, its organs. Like a body, it cleans itself and grows. When the city falls asleep, for some people a day begins. Night-shift workers keep this organism alive and prevent it from collapsing.The film focusses on the meeting zone between workers and wanderers; two worlds that collide at night. In the film, night-time has the power of changing the usual perception of places, seen as a reflective state of contemplation and questioning. My personal gaze is transferred to the camera, looking for details in the darkness and poetics at play.
