Rietveld Sandberg Research (RSR)
Research at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and the Sandberg Instituut is transdisciplinary and opens the possibilities of imagination. It is not limited to the way things are but rather to the possibilities of what could be. RSR envisions the academy as a place for plurality and cross-pollination that exceeds the confines of conventional academic disciplines and hierarchies.
Drawing on critical pedagogy, critical making and emancipatory research, RSR gives space to diverse and underrepresented ways of producing and approaching knowledge. RSR purposefully fosters research that emerges through shared experiences, based on principles of openness, empowerment, accountability and reciprocity.
RSR operates through Research Groups, each focused on a specific theme or methodology, supported by the Research Bureau. The Research Groups are led by a professor (lector) or senior researcher and strive to build connections, exchange and collaboration with education (Bachelor and Master departments and workshops) as well as with external partners.
