I owe you a debacle of uniqueness

The February 2020 exhibition at Eight Cubic Meters showed a collaboration between Jelly Hogendorp and Vivian Mac Gillavry, both DOGtime students at Gerrit Rietveld Academie.

Vivian asked Jelly to join an experiment that focuses on autonomy, control and visual dialogue. What happens to autonomy when you collaborate and react on each other within one work?

For Jelly the collaborative drawings are part of a personal research into lines, shapes and the connection between those. She saw the lines and shapes that Vivian drew as interesting new facts to respond to. Vivian was trying to interpret the perceptions of Jelly within the collaborative drawings. Therefore the process that took place leading up to this exhibition, and the dynamics between Jelly and Vivian, became part of the work.

With their drawings they created a joint world.
