Every year, the level of legal tuition fees is determined by the government. The Minister of Education granted the Rietveld Academie the distinctive feature of 'small-scale and intensive education'. This means we are allowed to ask for higher tuition fees in order to keep the education small-scale and intensive.

In addition to the legal tuition fee, we also have an institutional fee. Like the legal tuition fee, this fee is also increased annually. This institutional fee is paid by students who have already obtained a bachelor's and/or master's degree in the Netherlands or students with a non-European (NON EEA) passport. This fee is higher than the legal tuition fee because we do not receive government funding for these students. This institutional fee does not cover the costs incurred by the academy for these students.
The costs associated with the study programmes depend on the department you are studying. During the Basicyear the study costs are lower than the costs in later years. Allow for at least €800-€1100 additional costs per year for materials and excursions , in addition to the annual fees.
