The Gerrit Rietveld Academie wants to guide talented young people in such a way that they are able to function independently in the visual arts or design. We want to achieve that they can keep their work going under their own steam and become the artistic inspirers of their field.
The academy aims to maximise the individual's capabilities and creativity. We respect the individual and their freedom to develop a personal approach and determine their own future. We opt for research, experimentation and authorship. In doing so, we value an open attitude towards the environment and advocate commitment to others and society. We do this from our idiosyncratic vision of what art education should be.
The Rietveld Academie is an international academy. With 70% foreign students from more than 60 countries, we reflect the character of the contemporary world of art & culture. We see the convergence of different cultures in our academy as a strength; students and teachers are challenged to take in different perspectives.
