Application for the extra admission round for the Preparatory Course 2020-2021 is possible through the online form. NOTE: due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, applicants are asked to submit a portfolio for assessment in our online portfolio machine.

Deadline to apply: 1 August 2020 (this extra round is for EU/EEA applicants only!).

Deadline to submit portfolio: Monday, 31 August 2020, at noon!

After submitting your application form, you will receive home assignments to prepare for the admission round, and by mid-August you will receive more elaborate instructions regarding the online portfolio machine and your login details.

Submitting portfolio online instead of admission interview

Normally, the Preparatory Course is preceded by an admission interview with two tutors during which you present a selection of your visual work, and the outcome of home assignments. In view of COVID-19, this year, we ask candidates to submit a portfolio online (with extra video assignment), to replace the interview. The selection of work you show may consist of sketches, doodles, photographs, videos or three-dimensional work – in short, visual information in order to see if you are going to benefit from our programme, anything that provides information on your visual capacities. We would also like to know about your views on studying with us.

Start of the course

The Preparatory Course 2020 starts with a meal. This informal meet & greet takes places on Wednesday 16 September 2020 at 4 PM. The first class starts on Friday 18 September 2020 at 2 PM.

Course fee

Course fee 2020-2021: € 2,016.-.

NOTE: the course fee has to be paid in full before the start of the course, and cannot be paid in instalments. Additionally, attending the Preparatory Course does not give you the right to apply for Dutch student support (Studiefinanciering).

Residence permit non-EU/EEA students

Students from all non-EU/EEA countries are OBLIGED to apply for a residence permit through the International Office of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie to study in our Preparatory Course.

Did you know that non-EU/EEA students accepted for the Prep Course of 2019-2020 had to have almost €13,000 on their bank account to apply for their residence permit? For more information, read here.
