*See also is a lexicon written and compiled in 2017 by the students of the graphic design department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie as a part of the writing class of Phil Baber.

While reading Hugh Kenner’s Mechanic Muse the other day I came across a sentence which I thought was relevant to our lexicon and made a mental note to send it to all of you: “Terminology alters our sense of what the mind does, what are its domains, how characterised and bounded.”

But when I went to copy it out just now, I realised that it doesn't say “terminology” at all, but “technology.” Which I suppose makes more sense. But still, I like the misreading – the notion that what is thinkable is characterised and bounded by our terminology, our vocabulary, and that the realm of the thinkable may therefore also be stretched and changed by revisiting and rethinking the terminology that we have at our disposal.
