The Gerrit Rietveld Academie (GRA) is a small-scale, independent internationally oriented university of applied sciences for visual arts and design. The GRA consists of the Rietveld Academy (Bachelor's education (BA), divided into 14 departments, the Sandberg Institute (Master's education (MA), divided into 7 departments), the Lectorate Art & Spatial Praxis (LASP) and 23 workshops. The academy has around 850 students and 130 course participants. The students come from 55 different countries, making the academy a diverse community.
200 teachers are attached to the entire academy, most of whom are also independent artists or designers or have a practice linked to the artistic field as contemplators or theorists.
The academy is characterized by research-based and experimental art education, where (head) teachers, workshop staff, students and staff together shape and give substance to education and research. Diversity and inclusion, ecology and sustainability are important priorities of the GRA and therefore guide the actions of the members of the academy community.

Description of the department
The VAV-moving image department focuses on the development of moving images. In contemporary fine art, the concept of the moving image has developed into one of the most important expressive mediums. The professional art world produces films and videos with their own dynamics and signature.
We encourage research across various disciplines, such as film, video, sound, animation, performance and installations, where videos are combined with 2-D and 3-D works. It is precisely on this interface between image and sound, analogue and digital, factual and fantastic that unique works can be created.
Film, video and digital images, and all their crossovers, are continuously developing. This means that the curriculum is geared towards research, experimentation and innovation. It follows a clear structure, moving consecutively from developing ideas to products in progress, and subsequently to final results. These are discussed in relation to each other, both in group discussions and individual talks. The department provides a variety of projects, film workshops and instruction in software programs that are important for the various disciplines.
Theoretical research is conducted from a critical and inclusive perspective. This mentality enables students to explore specific substantive themes of their choice, and to find a way to clearly articulate their position as artists in the cultural landscape and the world we are living in today.
Position
The VAV - moving image department is looking for a fine art teacher, with a clear communication style and the ability to inspire and engage students. This position is for a teacher who is skilled in working with larger groups of students. The ideal candidate will have multimedia on attitude, develop their own workshop ideas that fit the curriculum and offer individualized guidance to help students in their work. The ideal candidate should possess strong communication skills, patience, and a passion for empowering students in their work.

We seek to engage with and learn from a wide range of cultural contexts, ensuring that our educational environment is enriched by multiple worldviews and approaches.
Profile
· We are seeking candidates with a specialized background in the arts, with expertise and a passion for hands-on approach. This could involve areas such as sculpture, fine art, social art practice, performance. For this position we are considering a multidisciplinary teacher, with emphasis on fine arts, rather than screen-based or film.
· Knowledge and understanding of developments in the field of the arts informed by personal experiences within your own professional art practice.
· Strong in content and able to transfer this content to students through enthusiasm and guidance.
· Social and communicative.
· Based in the Netherlands.
· Able to inspire hands-on engagement, with strong skills in providing constructive feedback and guiding students to reflect on their own work also in group sessions.
· Skilled in organizing educational workshops in accordance with the curriculum.
· Experience with and knowledge of diversity and inclusiveness in relation to the target group.
· Experience in a similar position as a teacher and/or demonstrable strong qualities.
· A completed didactical training or be willing to undergo training.
· Command of the English and Dutch language in word and writing.
· Preferably a relevant academic education.
The didactical approach at the Rietveld Academy builds on three important premises:
1. Students take an autonomous and responsible role in their own learning. Teachers offer opportunities for learning and coach students during their journey.
2. A healthy and safe feedback culture is a pre-requisite for the learning environment that the Rietveld Academy aims to offer. Giving and receiving feedback is part of daily interaction of the students and teachers, aiming to avoid unwanted power dynamics.

Employment conditions
· According to the Collective Labor Agreement for Higher Professional Education (CAO-HBO), the position is graded in scale 11 (job profile Teacher which has a maximum of € 6.359,47 gross per month on the basis of a full-time appointment (40 hours per week). The offered grading salary is determined on the basis of knowledge and experience.
· Fringe benefits including vacation pay (8%), a year-end bonus of 8.3%, a very generous number of vacations, travel allowance from 10 kilometers commuting distance, a pension plan (employer pays 70% of the premium) and development opportunities such as obtaining a master's or didactic degree.
· A contract for 8 months with the possibility for an extension based on 0,1207 fte / 200 hours to be worked per year. The start date of this position is 6 January 2025.
· This position has a maximum temporary duration of 2 or 4 years (depending on the professional status), with the perspective of a contract for an indefinite period of time in case of proven suitability and sufficient capacity.
· If not resident in the Netherlands, an RNI/BSN number (non-resident registration) is required, regardless of the form of contract. HR checks this before hiring.
