GERRIT RIETVELD ACADEMIE FASHION SHOW 2023
took place on Friday 23 June 2023 at DOOR OPEN SPACE, Amsterdam
In Rietveld Academie’s Fashion department, students are encouraged to develop a deeply personal, experimental and critical approach to – or sometimes departing from – fashion, aiming to challenge its material and immaterial culture and values, its narratives and traditions. As a result, the annual Fashion Show presents a diverse landscape of fashion related work, anticipating possible practices in or beyond the respective work field.
From forgotten crafts, to socially engaged topics such as multiple cultural identities and representation, from embodied research to refreshing ways of working together – this year once again reveals how students have been increasingly embracing hybridity in their work. No longer allowing themselves to be defined by the traditional frameworks of fashion, they explore new territories beyond the existing boundaries.
