The Gerrit Rietveld Academie consists of three buildings. The main building is The Rietveld building (designed by Gerrit Rietveld in 1950 and 1963 and completed in 1966). The second building, The Benthem Crouwel Building, was designed by Benthem Crouwel Architects and built in 2003 as an expansion of the Rietveld Academie. The third building is the FedLev building, and is in use since 2019. All buildings comply with all laws and regulations from the Building Decree (Bouwbesluit) on access for disabled people.

Lifts

All the Rietveld Academie buildings have lifts. They are all suitable for wheelchairs and walkers, and can be used without assistance.

The lifts in the Rietveld building are narrower than the lifts in the other buildings; 1 meter wide and 90 cm deep.

Accessible toilets

Accessible toilets are available in all the buildings. A floor plan showing the lifts and accessible toilets is available to download here.

Parking

The Gerrit Rietveld Academie has no parking spaces available. There are public disabled parking spaces available in the Fred. Roeskestraat. If you have a European disability parking card you can apply for a disabled parking permit. With this permit, parking for free is allowed in almost all places in Amsterdam.

Wheelchairs and walkers

There is a small electric wheelchair at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie that can be borrowed. In terms of size, this wheelchair is also suitable for the lift of the Rietveld building. The wheelchair can be requested via facilities@rietveldacademie.nl and can be collected at the reception desk on the ground floor of the Benthem Crouwel building.

Care-givers and guide dogs

Admission to the Graduation Shows is free, also for care-givers.

Registered service dogs are allowed in academy buildings, but visitors are not permitted to bring domestic pets.
