Thesis: Sensing and Performing Dress
Inspired by ancestral and contemporary rituals surrounding cosmetic and healing practices, this work centers dress not merely in its functionality; but as a primarily synesthetic and transformative act of material care. It’s directed towards ourselves as inseparable parts of nature, and it’s conducted in intimate conjunction with the other material bodies that exist with us in the ecosystem. It seeks to translate a sensory experience such as bathing in seawater into dress. To create a moment where the boundaries between body, object, and substance interact. Through its performance, it acts as a reverence to the ephemeral and to sensory attunement, where transformation emerges from conscious exchange with the physical world.
