Clay once tainted, due to its dense structure, can hardly ever be cleaned again, unless through often polluting methods of processing soil. Petroleumweg 3196 is a work that delves into the notion of forever contamination within the clay. The installation consists of a set of tools used for the futile act of cleansing the clay foraged from beneath a refinery. Throughout the timespan of the graduation show the soil becomes malleable and separated from tangible tar, yet remains spoiled. Eventually it is shaped into a temporary memorial. A statue of shit and dirt that represents the closeness of invisible toxicity, a memory of perpetual impairing of the ground and what lies underneath a rainbow oil spill.
