"The first houses on the Nieuwendijk were built around 1225. They were the oldest residential houses in Amsterdam and made of wood. I have been living on the remains for over 10 years now. Usually there are so many people strolling by under my window but then suddenly there was no one at all due to Covid-19. In my head, a river arose in the absence of people. And a story slowly emerged."
