Mingrui Jiang

she/her

1998

I’m Splitting, Falling Apart stems from Mingrui’s interest in their dissolution as an individual which lead to a compelling inner impulse to “replicate myself, hundreds of times”. At the same time, the work evokes a longing and quest to find a place within the world. In a Sisyphean spirit, she replicates themselves in a futile attempt to escape the unbearable corporal entity that is always at odds with the constructs of reality, only to (re)discover the impossibility of fitting in.

All change leads to a profound sense of oblivion, shedding layers of the former identities and blurring the boundaries that separate the self from others. Mingrui grapples with the ongoing enigma of subjective existence where the illusory boundaries of self dissipate into the realm of the ineffable.
