Thesis: God Loves Me: Accidents in Time and Thought (part 1 / part 2)

Siyana Shishkova's triptych of multi-media paintings and photographic experiments are the result of free form processes where layers interact not only with each other but also with the other paintings in the trio as a collective composition of decisions and backtracks.

The works on display are not intended to be consumed as finalized objects but rather a process of marks in time and a shrouded dialogue between specific elements in Siyana's orb. The main elements are her photographs documenting calligraphic qualities found in shadows in nature, the aesthetics of asemic writing which is devoid of semantic meaning proposing a possibility of interpretation by the viewer and lastly imagery influenced by picture books, fables and cartoons found in Eastern European basements.

Despite the layers and methods in her work, there is a consistent thread under the surface that charts out a landscape of grief. There is a veiled quality that is discernible in the literal layering and hiding of images but also in the emotive perception of her work. The works are not a closed presentation of an investigation but rather an offering, where the viewer can reachieve proximity with a series of personal association that function as echoes with an origin you cannot place but is familiar and intimate.
