Songs from the second floor
The work is about what spaces we don’t have access to do to our mind and imagination, inspired by the apartment complex I live in. The apartment complex is a typical Amsterdam building like there are so many of in the city; an enormous brick building, flour stories high, a lot of stairs - and doors that each contain a household with a story. Because of the lack of contact with my residents, I caught myself creating stories about their lives and ascribing different kind of identities to the same person. The neighbor from the second floor, always dressed in black, could just as easy be a mighty business man or someone who suffers from depression - but what is reality and what is fantasy? In that light the apartment complex functions as a constantly changing theater piece.
