Thesis: Duizend rondjes om een eiland

Een eiland voelt soms als een schaalmodel van iets groters dat je nog niet begrijpt (An island sometimes feels like a scale model of some- thing bigger - something that you don’t understand yet.)

In my installation I question how we relate to our surroundings. The presence of an island runs like a thread through the work. An island has a limited amount of space and is isolated. At the same time, an island is a symbol of freedom, and an idyllic vision surrounds the island. In my installation I explore the desire for the individual experience of freedom. I show how we are constantly looking for solid ground.

At the same time my work is a research into colour and form. I move between the border of abstraction and figuration. My work can be seen as a continuous play of layering, deconstruction and fragmentation.
