During the Graduation Show 2020, Dead Darlings in collaboration with the Gerrit Rietveld Academie's Student Support Group, organised an online art auction. Graduating students and teachers alike had placed their artworks up for auction in the service of their community. It was a fundraiser: profits go to Berlagefonds (Berlage Fund) to help students in financial need.
Participants were all listed, but names were only revealed after the final sale. Find out who made what at auction.rietveldacademie.nl.
Solidarity is an attitude of resistance. Resistance to these dark times has been exemplified by the artists who generously donated their artworks, and by the people who breathed life back onto those dead darlings, in the service of a worthy initiative. So, thank you thank you to both artists and collectors!
Kudos also to the Student Support Group, the Dead Darlings collective, and the extensive team of people who worked bringing everything together, making our online auction: “The Show Must Go On” a big success and raising over four thousand euros in just a few days!
The Berlagefund is there to help students affected by circumstance, who need financial assistance. The more we reinforce these safety nets, in whatever ways we can, the more we bolster our community and prop each other up. Thanks to everyone who took part, and keep your ears to the ground-and your eyes on your devices-for our next subversive act.
