Graduation Year
1. What are you currently working on?
“Next to our graduation project, we are working on a FASHION SHOW 2020 campaign for the Rietveld Academie. Our starting point was a Surrealistic landscape, which is partly collaged out of physically made elements using photography, 3d scanning, sculpting. We didn’t want to limit ourselves only to digital production, which is such a big part of our work normally. After the lockdown, the process moved to our homes. We drew, scanned, folded and used a lot of layers to create images, and manipulated everything together.”
2. What has changed for you now that the Rietveld buildings are closed for classes and meetings?
“Probably our process would have been more analogue/experimental if we had a chance to use workshops and meet in person. Communicating was challenging in the first month of isolation because we were not used to meeting online. But it proved inspiring in new ways too; we now plan to make images of the fashion students’ processes, via video calling them.”
3. And what is staying the same?
“The general atmosphere of the campaign- of which an important aspect is dreaming. It is interesting to think about our own dreams and read about those of others right now. Quarantining itself seems surreal, in that sense it connects with our topic.”
4. Do you have a tip to make these isolating times a little bit more joyful?
“If you are stuck try to switch up your routine, help a friend move house or plan a full day trip on the bike. Don’t spend too much time in front of screens, find some nature around and get some energy from it. Time to cook nice slow food! Watch movies every night!”
