It is the sharing of what is personal that fundamentally underlines each of Anna Aksionova’s projects. Through radical openness the artist let the audience see what is usually kept private, the funeral of her mother, the video she didn’t see herself. The video will no longer exist as art after she watches it. The overall themes are lose and obsession. The hair sculpture mounted on floral foam is there as unfinished funeral wreath. A book contains archive family photos and is all about the life of deceased mother. The artist investigates the power struggles between the one who is able to define his subject and the one who is defined as subject through comparing found footage photos of women selling their hair.
