‘LOVE LOCKS’ - Jesse Andriesse
The ‘LOVE LOCKS’ installation features 27 closed and 9 open locks hanging from central heating pipes, the closed locks symbolizing EU member states while the open locks represent candidates for EU membership. Each lock features the image of a handshake between a representative from the European Union and the representative of the individual states, framing pragmatic diplomacy within a romantic gesture. The installation stems from my longtime fascination with the rituals and recurring imagery within politics.
