“How to Climb a Hill” is a surreal guidebook that explores the dynamics of self-help. Just like any self-help book, this one is full of advice that are at the same time sensible and non-sensical. The title “How to Climb a Hill” plays on the classic self-help trope of climbing a mountain, and the myth of Sysyphos, the man that keeps pushing a stone up a hill only to watch it fall down again, repeating this action for eternity. Klara Graah is a graphic designer with a specific interest in illustration; her work is prevalently about investigating the boundaries between the two rather related yet still separated fields. The result is a very distinctive, playful, yet serious personal visual language challenging the dominant masculine aesthetics of contemporary graphic design.
