The Gerrit Rietveld Academie is proud to present the work of 156 graduates in art and design in the Graduation Show 2024. The exhibition will take place from 3 to 7 July 2024.
Once a year, our academy's three buildings in Amsterdam are transformed into 5,800 square metres of exhibition space. By showcasing their graduation projects, our graduates position themselves within their fields and share how they relate to the world. The exhibition marks the beginning of a new chapter in their lives as visual artists and designers.
The Graduation Show features a wide range of expressions, including film, sculpture, graphic design, language, drawing, sound, painting, photography, fashion, and more. In addition, there is an extensive public programme with performances, talks, and screenings.
Please note that when you visit the Graduation Show, you will also encounter signs of support and protest from students4palestine. Since the end of May, there has been an encampment at the academy. The management of the academy has been engaged in a mediation process with students4palestine and staff4palestine for the past few weeks.
The Gerrit Rietveld Academie acknowledges the right to protest when it complies with the general house rules of the academy, our code of conduct, and national law.
The Graduation Show is a moment where the works and visions of graduating students take center stage. A successful Graduation Show is an honest representation of how graduating students relate to the world and reality, both globally and locally. The current group of 156 graduates is not homogeneous but represents a spectrum of visions and realities that sometimes align, partially overlap, coexist, or even conflict. In a good and honest exhibition, there is room for all these visions.
In the past few weeks, our Graduation Show coordinator has been in constant conversation with all stakeholders within the Graduation Show, aiming to find a balance that does justice to all voices without one dominating or interrupting the other. This process resulted in the set up you will encounter on the campus.
