GERRIT RIETVELD ACADEMIE FASHION SHOW 2018
On Wednesday 6 June the Fashion department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie presented FASHION SHOW 2018, featuring the collections of this year's fashion graduates and a selection of work by the first- and second-year fashion students.
FASHION SHOW 2018 showcased the results of a personal and experimental learning process of this year's fashion graduates: Anna Myntekær Sørensen, Antonina Maria Pawłowicz, Edward Show, Galatée Martin, Jahmuna Mcclean, Lieselot Elzinga, Nikola Čemanová, Sonia Oet, Sonia Witwitzka, Tatiana Quard, Yana Monk and Yaroslav Glazonov. The graduates offer a challenging perspective on fashion, with a feeling for the contemporary and the visionary. It is striking how they dare to escape conventions and work intuitively as they relate to the imperfect, analogue reality, and search for autonomy while maintaining an awareness of their position between the ancient past and the future.
Graphic design of the campaign is made by Deimante Jasiuleviciute, Jurgis Lietunovas and Manon Bachelier as part of their graduation work.
The FASHION SHOW took place at the impressive former NDSM shipbuilding yard, NDSM Loods. Once one of the largest shipyards in the world, it is now ‘Kunststad’ ('Art City'), a creative event space and a monumental architectural site that is home to around four hundred artists, designers and set builders; one of the largest 'art incubators' in the Netherlands.
GERRIT RIETVELD ACADEMIE FASHION SHOW 2018 is made possible with the generous support of NDSM Loods, NDSM Werf and the City of Amsterdam.
