To look at something that is empty is still to be looking, still to be seeing something. There is never a neutral surface, never a neutral discourse, never a neutral form.
The exploration of invisibility within representation has been a recurring theme in most of Lejla’s work over the last years and through research on invisibly within writing and editing a frustration and interest grew towards the topic of invisible spaces. Through a set of thirteen hidden characters, Lejla explores the entrance to nothingness. Each symbol represents a distinct space, both typographic and anecdotal. By creating a relationship between symbols and a collection of hidden spaces within stories, myths and found footage the threshold of emptiness is questioned. Through describing these spaces new narratives are created, often transporting you into a wonderfully (or troublingly) surreal state or situation.
