The Library Talks with Dorine van Meel - Thursday June 1, 5pm

Dorine van Meel's practice is situated within and between the media of moving image, writing and installation. Her work attempts to expose current structures of power, whilst at the same time considering modes of resistance.

During her library talk, van Meel will read from texts which often find their roots in feminist or anarchist discourses, queer theory, and decolonial thinking. By looking at these writings she will open up the question of how, as artists, we can negotiate our political positions within our practices.

Dorine van Meel's interest in discursive and socially engaged art, feminist methodologies and self-organised forms of collaborations is reflected within the projects she initiates such as recently “The Southern Summer School” at BAK, Utrecht and “Does Not Equal” at W139, Amsterdam.

Dorine van Meel is theory teacher at the photography department.

The Library Talks is a series of lectures held at the library of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and Sandberg Institute. Each talk revolves around a selection of books made by the speaker, assembled out of the library’s current collection as well as newly purchased books for the occasion.
