Thesis: Beyond the table – relations of human, material and object

My graduation work UN_TILED is an installation consisting of various pieces. Central to this work is a dining table that becomes a conversational piece, inviting unconventional forms of exchange amongst the audience. The table is made of 15 ceramic tiles that can be moved, while subtly changing the way of engaging with the table. The tiles feature various reliefs and engravings that guide glass marbles as they roll around the table’s surface. Marbles, one of the most ancient games in human history, revives the table as a playful stage and invites to break the inherited conventions of table manners.

I am interested in how collective relationships between humans are formed and how art can serve as a tool for shared experience. I like to ask how relations are influenced between each other, matter and oneself and how we can (un)learn kin and community with(in) our surrounding.
