Thesis: How does the presence or absence of ornament reflect changing ideas of care, productivity and behaviour, and how did this discourse develop during the twentieth century in the West?

I started by asking myself what culture is and how it can be defined. Is it something tied to a country, shaped by family traditions, or something more personal? While exploring these questions, I became interested in weddings as moments where culture often becomes especially visible, where culture is remembered, passed on, reinterpreted, and sometimes transformed.  Through conversations with friends from germany, with different cultural backgrounds, I looked at how traditions, family expectations, personal wishes, and contemporary influences come together around marriage and how they decide what to carry forward and what to make their own.
