Thesis: In Out
In a constant struggle between concealing and revealing,
we build an understanding of who we are—
or who we need to be—for the world outside.
Pushing against the erased memory of the queer closet,
and the narrow focus on "coming out,"
I ask myself:
When was the first time I came out?
And to whom?
Do I even remember the feeling, or just the performance?
Queer space often begins in the bedroom,
in the living room,
in the closet itself.
Every time we break out of one closet,
we find ourselves inside another.
Each memory leads to the next,
and in each one,
we uncover something new about ourselves.
