Thesis: Once upon a slimy, fishy time
Moving between land and sea, I explore how humans, plants, animals,
and synthetic materials coexist, influence each other,
and survive together in a damaged world.
My work reflects on how we care for other species and ecosystems
while living within environments shaped by consumerism,
pollution, and animal exploitation.
I create speculative worlds.
Worlds where the natural and the artificial
merge, and form a new reality.
Worlds of beauty and destruction,
pleasure and disgust.
I collect materials.
Slime.
Garbage.
Flowers.
Fishing nets.
I photograph them, and collage directly onto
the printed surface.
The materials guide the narratives.
Narratives of tactile encounters.
Surfaces, textures.
Skin touching garbage.
Seeds growing from plastic.
Bodies negotiating intimacy with what has been
discarded.
The organic flourishes, grows and decays
It rots, it moulds, flies appear, bacteria, it mutates.
The artificial remains, creates unrest,
or becomes fragile carrier bags.
