A Fly on the Wall

  

The fly seems to move aimlessly around the room, making a high-pitched buzzing sound before landing on the wall. It quietly observes, takes note, and – after multiple infiltration attempts – leaves behind tiny traces barely visible to the eye.

This project started with research into the systems of hierarchy within the Rietveld Academy. It asked, what does it mean to be accessible? To disobey conventional interactions within the workplace? The intention was to challenge bureaucracy’s standardised rules of engagement. To do so, Hannah sought connections to positions of power through in-between spaces and modes of exchange, hallway meetings, coffee breaks, and accidental get-togethers in door openings or elevators.

 

Hannah reached out to Miriam Bestebreurtje (director of bachelor education) and Joana Velu (assistant to the director) with the request to collaborate during the graduation show. The three agreed on an exchange - an exhibition space for an office space.
